RA in IIT

Is getting into old IIT as RA better than getting in new IIT as TA?

Is RA in general a good choice?

Yes, RA from old IIT's is definitely better than TA from newer ones. Think of it as a 3 year M.Tech, a bit more research oriented. Placements for RA and TA are almost same, in some cases better for RA as they have one extra year to prepare for the placements.
