Hello Everyone...!! Mock Test 5 of GO Test Series 2021 will be live from tomorrow morning 6am until Wednesday evening 11:59pm for ranking purpose. Questions and answer keys will remain the same until Wednesday midnight and any wrong answer key will be Marks to All like in actual GATE.

The website is too slow from past few days, please look into it. @admins and @arjun sir. Most of us are revising through PYQ's and we strictly follow GO as the only reliable source.

Sir if possible please set it according to current scenario of GATE 2021 ( less MSQ , more NAT and most importantly "random order of questions". 🙏

regarding MSQ, NAT - those are set as average case.

Is there any guarantee that number of MSQs and numericals will be same for CSE as was for Civil? Last year the number of numericals were not exactly the same across branches.

With really high load here, there is nothing we can do to the site code now. But if possible will try to activate mixing of 1 and 2 mark questions for some previous year tests on Thursday.

I gave the test just now, earlier my score was 54 but not it is showing 9.66 :(

I have both the results open and the second one makes no sense, please check.

Sorry, for those who took exam in last 3 hours and result is not proper- it can't be fixed as the result is scrambled. For analysis purpose you need to take the test again. Sorry for the change 😞

In any mark range in this exam, -10 to + 20 is possible in actual GATE. In the remaining time you should just focus on avoiding tension and ensuring MINIMAL (not necessarily zero) mistakes in actual GATE. It is too late to learn any concept now - but still worth identifying the mistakes which you did - as this can be avoided in exam.

For those in 50-60 range, you might see a large gap of +20 with the toppers in these tests. Typically this gap should come down to around 10 mark in actual GATE. So, getting to a top 300 rank is very much possible.

I'm using the absolute marks just for reference purpose, in actual GATE only relative performance matter. If paper is difficult even 65 is a top mark. If paper is easy even 70 is not good enough. In this mock, based on the performance, it is on the difficult side for top scorers but not so for getting around 30.

@Arjun Sir, my marks also went from 62.33 to 2.33 when i revisted the test report. I think there is some bug which is causing this, when we revisit the test report after closing it.

Guys, Don't focus on marks, whatever you are getting it's fine, if you are getting on low side, don't feel demotivating by it, and try to avoid those silly mistakes you are committing in this exam,

and if you are getting on top side, don't get over excited and over confident, just be calm and focus on the right thing, revise as much as you can.

and this up and down in marks is causing due to shuffling of questions and answer key..

but lets just thanks Sir, and whole GO team, who are doing such a nice work to give us an experience like real GATE, They all are working hard and doing their best to make this happen and trying to add shuffling as well..

and in the end, if you want my opinion on Mock5, it was on moderate side, with avoiding silly mistakes, it was scoring.. (90 score was achievable in this test)

I'm repeating again, just focus on your mistakes at this time, and revise revise and revise

Not shuffled for any test now. It was for a couple of hours yesterday which caused a mess. Tomorrow it'll be enabled just for some old test here - only for 2 days and results must be downloaded -- wont get saved like for normal tests.

I would urge all the aspirants to not get discouraged by your performance in mock test results, one of my friends gave gate in 2018 and in mocks he would score in the range of 50-65. In actual gate his rank was under 100. Just believe in your hard work and stay optimistic!

Can anyone please suggest how to attempt the paper. previously I used to attempt 2 marks  then apti and then 1 marks.

Should we scan the paper or go with the flow.

It's all randomized, so you can either look for 2 marks questions and waste time or go with the flow.

You can reserve 5 mint for searching all 2 marks questions and review them then solve 1 by one Or go with flow skip 1 mark questions do 2 mark 1st.

In short try to skip time consuming and questions from topics you do not know (and option checking cant work) as fast as possible. Then you should be able to answer all 1 and 2 mark questions - no need to prefer 2 mark ones.

Toppers names of mock5 published now. Some of your names are missed due to the site issue but lets have your names in actual GATE toppers list 👍

Even after the issue of some names missing close to 50 people scored above 50. They are in very good chance of getting to old IITs. Just avoid carelessness and take enough rest and be calm for GATE. All the best 👍

@divyagupta25 you mean the official mock test on iit Bombay website? It is actually the same paper as gate 2020. You can find its answer keys on iit Delhi gate 2020 website.

Do you mean sitting and sleeping? That time is over and most PSUs will be sold off due to this attitude. Also it is a wrong concept that in private companies work life balance is bad. I was in AMD India and work life balance was pretty great. The amount of work one do per day is much lower than one do at IISc/IITs.

Just to satisfy the public ego of "Government job" many talented people join PSUs and end up wasting their talent. If it is a good PSU job then it is fine. But I'm seeing many people who are doing bad jobs in PSUs and getting not even half the salary they would have got in good private companies and still continuing it to satisfy the ego of their relatives (might help in marriage market though unless Modi government changes this).

at max 10 hours per day 9-6 (some weeks things go 12 hours, it’s really hard to find good WL balance in private companies. I am definitely not qualified to comment on companies like AMD but things get hectic in places I’ve been.)

A sense of purpose (Everyone told me get into product, life is set. But often a scientist contributing to country has a more meaningful life than me helping drug companies hype up prices. Conscientiously killing people)

Meaningful computer science (I write stupid spark code for a living, I don’t get to make distributed computing platforms like Numerical Groups in DRDO and ISRO. I don't get to build aircrafts.)

 

I personally think from a perspective of average guys like me, a government job gives a glimpse of meaningful work both academically and conscientiously.

First of all stop calling yourself average, you are not.

I just looked at your work experience and it is so good.

Since India is such a populous country therefore we use the same metric to evaluate everyone, which many professors also believe isn't right. But there is no better alternative either, they cannot suddenly start giving admissions as it happens in foreign universities. Because majority of us had theoretical way of learning since school days, and had no time to discover and evaluate ourselves correctly. So just relax.

We all know this story

 

So congratulations, you are doing amazing. wishing you more success in the future :)

And according to me the best analogy to describe "GATE marks" will be electron and energy relation.

Like to pull out the first electron you need little energy.

Then 2nd one requires a little more. {this will be the transition from 37 to 55}

Then 65+ requires significantly higher effort and then so on...

@Arjun sir, we don't have any idea about how life is after joining PSU/do PHD and pursue research/get a job in corporate after doing mtech from IIT/IISC. Many people are afraid to go for research but they have no idea why. It would be very helpful to hear from experienced people ,like you, what are they doing after choosing one of these fields after  5 or 10 years.

There's no point in being scared now, right? I should just go with what I have. Panicking now will ruin tomorrow. I am aware of my prep and only I can save myself tomorrow right? Fighting this part of me that wants to be scared and concerned is more difficult than understanding TCP congestion control or undecidability. I have to give my best tomorrow. Period. And that can only come from me.
