The problem with isro people is the way they set paper, there was one question in which they say what is the time complexity than after writing code snippet they again ask what is the invalid string such ambiguous question will dent the confidence of any one .

There were error in 4-5 questions. The question on asymptotic complexity of code snippet was ambiguous. Question on set theory has no correct option given. Similarly, the question on tree traversal was also ambiguous.  I think such questions would get canceled.

I worked with the assumption that the software engineering questions weren't there.

There were some repeat questions - in a 2-address instruction format what can the 2 addresses be used for, which of the following sorts are independent of input sequence, calculating the output delay of an 8-bit ripple carry adder,  when is a grammar called ambiguous, number of tokens in C program, CFL closure, subset of regular set, many such ones.

And some numericals were very run of the mill - find speedup between pipeline/non-pipeline, one question on expandable instruction format, min-dfa, etc. Except a few of the theory questions, no alien concepts as far as I could see.

Personally I felt the paper wanted to test the candidate's will power of completing it in 90mins, rather than concepts :)

They have given 3NF as answer , but it should be 2 NF

https://gateoverflow.in/15778/every-attribute-functionally-dependent-primary-relation

Q). Avalanche effect in cryptography refers??

According to William stalling book on 'Network security and Cryptography" :

"A desirable property of any encryption algorithm is that a small change in either the plaintext or the key should produce a significant
change in the ciphertext. In particular, a change in one bit of the plaintext or one bit of the key should produce a change in many bits of the ciphertext."

So both A and B should be answer. The most probable answer according to some research articles should be A however.

@Swaraj Right.. In Little Endian - Big endian question, Ans has to be B.

Other than that,

1) The hardware implementation which provides mutual exclusion is

  1. Semaphores
  2. Test and set instructions
  3. Both options
  4. None of the option

In above question answer has to be C. https://gateoverflow.in/331484/isro2020-57?show=331484#q331484  But According to ISRO key Answer is B. Will raise objection.

2) To send same bit sequence, NRZ encoding require

  1. Same clock frequency as Manchester encoding
  2. Half the clock frequency as Manchester encoding
  3. Twice the clock frequency as Manchester encoding
  4. A clock frequency which depends on number of zeroes and ones in the bit sequence

For this question, Answer has to be C, https://gateoverflow.in/331403/isro2020-52?show=331403#q331403 But But According to ISRO key Answer is B.

3) Remote Procedure calls are used for.. Option A can be correct.

In distributed computing, a remote procedure call (RPC) is when a computer program causes a procedure (subroutine) to execute in a different address space (commonly on another computer on a shared network), which is coded as if it were a normal (local) procedure call, without the programmer explicitly coding the details for the remote interaction. RPC can also be implemented on the same system.

4) Avalanche effect in cryptography refers

  1. Large change in cipher text when the keyword is changed minimally
  2. Large changes in cipher text when the plain text is changed
  3. Large Impact of keyword change to length of the cipher text
  4. None of the above

Option A is also correct.https://gateoverflow.in/331416/isro2020-45?show=331416#q331416. But According to ISRO key Answer is B.

My sorry ass is writing this exam for the fourth time, each time missing out the cutoff by about 1 or 2 marks (max was about 30 when I scored about 143 in exam conducted on 2017 and cutoff was a whooping 173). This time, I scored 102 according to the official key, which will probably increase to about 105 after the corrected key comes out. I do not have any hope of clearing to the interview this time even though I wish with the bottom of my heart I could. I am sure I could clear the interview if I get a chance, but I do silly mistakes during written test every single time.

Seeing this question, I was baffled at the incompetence of ISRO at setting such a bad question paper at this huge level. Made me think what will my fate be if I join this institution after all this perseverance (if I infact am able to make it). Next time, they have to remedy this.

Just wanted to get this out of my chest, thats all.

@Dumbest Kid This is so true. The questions were really good this time but however they were really careless when it came to implementation. I have wasted my time in wrong questions because I was surprised my answer was not there in any of the options. Now, after spending time on those questions, those questions are not considered for evaluation itself. This is really bad.

@Swaraj Dasgupta I think answer should be 1NF not even 2NF.

I also thought the same and then left the question. Paper setter was such a careless person that he was not even bothered to write options correctly. I guess he just wanted to play with us because no one can do anything to them as they are already on high post/organization.

After giving this exam i was thinking can't we do anything about this exam and ask them to conduct it again with proper way similar to GATE exam. Because this will happen every time and every time candidates will face such issue. This year even before challenging the key they have declared the question to be excluded for evaluation. I see we have a very good chance and catch them. Atleast once we can do it so that from the next time onwards these government people won't be doing such foolish thing. Just that I do not know whether the same thing is being felt by every candidate here or not as i think its an injustice to everyone but no one knows how to bring justice

I am getting 118 marks as per official answer key. Is someone getting more than 120?

@Akash Ghosh  Ofcourse I know that it is regular because the language is finite. But my question is how can a person interpret "RE" as regular? I always use "REL" for "recursive enumerable language" and "rec" for "recursive languages" as shortcut. But how can they directly give RE and expect students to think that it means Regular language? It is more suitable for Recursive Enumerable language. That's why I have chosen "CFG and above" as answer.

Semaphores are implemented in Kernel level and used in User level. For mutual exclusion, we need to make sure that only one process read, modify/update data in critical section. So Atomicity, of these operations need to be take care by Hardware (Like Test and Set instruction).

If every non-key attribute functionally dependent on the primary key, then the relation will be in

  1. First normal form
  2. Second normal form
  3. Third normal form
  4. Fourth Normal form

Answer - C Third Normal Form.

Why it is not in 2NF:

Let's take simple example:

R: {X→Y,  Y→Z,  X→Z}

In above relation,  in FD Y→Z, Z is clearly Non key attribute and It is NOT dependant on Primary key Because Primary key is X.

Y→Z is not valid functional dependency for the given statment "If every non-key attribute functionally dependent on the primary key".

We can't take wrong example and prove our answer.

3NF Wikipedia definition : "no non-prime attribute depends on other non-prime attributes. All the non-prime attributes must depend only on the candidate keys."  This definition is same as "If every non-key attribute (All the non prime attributes) functionally dependent on the primary key(candidate keys)"

Non prime attribute and Non key attributes are same : http://www.exploredatabase.com/2017/07/define-non-prime-attribute-non-key-attribute-in-dbms.html

@  what makes you think that cut off is atleast 130?

25 posts in 2018 and cut off was 121/234.

This year

a)number of posts 53. Usually the ratio for interview is 1:10 so top 500 in the exam will be called.

b)number of applicants are less compared to 2018 as final year students weren't allowed to write.(unless non student exam applicants in 2020- non student applicants in 2018>(number of student applicants in 2018)) which I think is highly unlikely to happen.

c)paper was medium to tough and max marks is  225 already.

d)there is no rule for cut off (i.e) 50 percent of max marks and all, because in a previous year the cut off was 101.

So, this year a person with 100 marks has more chance to fall in top 500.

So, obvi the cut off should be decreased unless they decide to call less people for the interview.

So what made you think that cut off is 130 or near that?

either you are a fool or I am.

Ratio will more likely be 1:4,at least thats what it was during 2017.Now,consider on average 3 people got the same mark and highest mark is 160. Also, the mentioned ratio means 44 * 4 = 176 students will be chosen (aprox 180). So cutoff is going to be 160 - (180 /3) = 160 - 60 = 100. This is my modest estimate based on 2017 written test result.

How do u know the ratio qill be 1 to 10?

@

They call in 1:8 ratio, in 2018 212 (general) were called, 12-13 maybe having same marks.

In Dec 2017, 86 were called (don't know if it includes other category) for 9 vacancies.

cutoff was 122 for 25 vacancy, 2 questions excluded in 2018.

This time extra 5 (total 7, assuming sql and case 1,2 move question is excluded). by this itself cutoff is expected to drop to 107 (122 -15). Then there are extra 19 (44 for general) vacancies.

One more important thing is when range of marks (marking from 219 compared to 234 in 2018) is decreasing, number of people per marks will increase a lot as marks decreases.

No one can predict cutoff exactly but with all this i guess it will be somewhere in between 95-103.

But one thing is ISRO should set proper question paper, there is so much competition that even 1 marks, 1 min in exam matters, so many wrong, multiple correct question, ambiguous question isn't expected from such a reputed organization which waste aspirants time which could be used for solving other questions.

Those who think that they are scoring more than 50% of the marks, better to strengthen the 5 of the subjects.

Hi Everyone,

As anyone who has appeared for ISRO exam would know that this year there were 8 questions with none of the options correct and 4 with multiple correct. Due to ICRB team fault in setting questions many of the students ended up wasting time 10-15 min in those question question which is huge considering that there was only 90 min for solving 80 question. As these questions were cancelled students who didn't attend them would have got an edge over others. So i request all applicant to mail ISRO regarding this issue and ask them to call people in higher ratio for interview. Many have already mailed, please do the same.  Send mail from your id registered with ISRO during exam, other id mail they aren't opening..

Mail id:

[email protected] (mail id of ICRB)

[email protected] (Mail id of Nodal Public Grievance Officer, Department of Space, ISRO)

Send two mails Keep Subject as

1. "grievance about Advertisement Number ISRO:ICRB:03:2019"

2. "Query- Scientist/Engineer-SC Recruitment –ICRB"

What to write?

  • Mention above reasons (IN OWN WORDS, IF EVERYONE SENDS SAME MAIL IT WILL BE TREATED AS SPAM). Add your own valid and logical justifications.
  • request them to call people in higher number of people per vacancy notified. They call in 1:8 ratio, mention call1:11 or higher. (BARC perhaps call in 1:20)
Like

1:8 ratio means currently 464 students will be called from CS branch alone. If it is 1:11 or 1:20 I don't know how many months it will take for interviews to complete 😂😂😂.

@commentator It's 44*4=352, rest 14 are for PWD where they call in 1:2 or less ratio I think. And for your information they call sometimes 1000+ people in electronics and mechanical but still would be  completeing  interview as required. (Of course then their vacancies are much higher than 44).

@parwateeswar i don't know if they will consider it. We van try atleast asking for it as many questions were wrong.

Hey Everyone ! Most of the activities in ISRO are on-hold since we are also working with minimal staff only.

So my suggestion would be to those who are expecting more than 50% marks according to the final answer key is to prepare and rock solid the basic concepts of gate subjects.

The panel may not ask you the entire syllabus but with a concept they will test your deeper understanding about it.

For example : With heap as a topic they tested my data structures knowledge similarly memory management in OS and also they asked me to solve one probability question on board.

Good Luck,

Akshay

i typed  this message with some data copy pasted from smssubham, plz everybody send this to below  link

https://www.pmindia.gov.in/en/interact-with-honble-pm/ . more message than  quick action.

this year ISRO scientist/Engineer recruitment 2020 written  test (OMR based)was conducted for computer science branch with 58 posts on 12/01/2020.

this year there were 8 questions with none of the options correct and 4 with multiple correct.  in question paper clearly given that" multiple answers will be assumed as wrong."Due to ICRB team fault in setting questions many of the students ended up wasting time 10-15 min in those question  which is huge considering that there was only 90 min for solving 80 question. As these questions were cancelled students who didn't attend them would have got an edge over others.they given in advertisement anskey will be declared in website within 3 days . but they taken 2 weeks means that they was not able to solve that questions within 3 days, then how they can expect form us to solve that paper within 90 minutes with minus marking(1/3).and they taken also more than 1  month to declare revised anskey, with again mistakes.

we requested to them please call in the ratio of 1:11 for interview.Final selection depends on our hard work only as we know the level of interview for  ISRO,but  atleast  they should give us a chance to show it ,because writen phase is only qualifying in nature as per ISRO.

BARC had also call in 1:20. but they didn't accept our request they called only 394(1:7) candidates which is totally unfair with us, many students are preparing  dedicately for ISRO, but after ISRO's this step we are demotivating. please help us , and call  candidates for interview  1:11 or higher in ratio with revised writen result list .

@kpc, to be honest, this is simply nonsense. Who are you to instruct them to call in some particular ratio?
Bro, even I didn't get selected and I also worked hard but don't let failure take over.
Enjoy the happiness of those who got selected and meanwhile you keep on preparing for it.
And yes regarding question paper this year even I was upset but then it happened with everyone and not just you. This shows we were simply not prepared to handle such situations but now with this experience, we know how to go through in the exam.
People who handles this well got selected as simple as that.

I understand your agony and many of us are in same boat. But, unfortunately there is pretty much nothing one can do in this regard. ISRO reserves the right to decide how many students they would call for interview. They would have called only 58 students, and still we could do nothing. It was also clearly mentioned in the job notification/advertisement.  Number of students to be called for interview, number of students finally selected etc. is utterly ISRO's prerogative.

I don't know Am I eligible to answer this question but I don't think they would understand this problem , We were more in comfortable position  . people of other branch suffers more such as ECE AND Mechanical guys .our call ratio was 1:7 where as for others were 1:2.5 and 1:5 so if they (ISRO) update their results, might be our result will also change.Just hope for the best.

So frustrating .. btw I am just requesting , not ordering.

With a disclaimer that I am not an ISRO applicant and so I am not affected by any of this - I'd just like to say the below.

If you feel wronged, by all means - express your concern to the authorities and complain or raise an issue. But encouraging a mass of people to literally copy-paste the same thing is not the way to do that. The only thing you will achieve is having a spam filter installed on their end to filter out all such complaints. A few dozen of the same messages being received is enough for anyone (let alone the PMO !) to consider it propaganda/unionization/spam and simply ignore it. What will end up happening is that people with genuine concerns will not be heard. Ever heard of the boy who cried wolf ?

If your concern is genuine, make sure your complaint is also genuine. And rest assured that it will be heard, even if nothing will come out of it immediately - the next batch of candidates will benefit. And you may be amongst that next batch.

They have updated The results sheet, earlier they called 394 members for interview, now it is 418

The Schedule for Interviews will be notified in the website and by e-mail to short-listed candidates

they have mentioned this point recently in isro web site

Do we need to scan all the documents together in a single file or each document is to be scanned separately and then put together in a zip file?
Like
If It is a single pdf, there is no point in zipping it again. I think seperate PDFs with in a zipfile.

Can anyone tell the cutoff for isro 2020 cs for unreserved?
Like
what was the cutoff for unreserved?

Answer for your Question is: 97

Note1: There is no reservation policy in ISRO recruit ment, So Cutoff is same for all Categories.Nothing special for unreserved, unless you are a PWD candidate.

Note 2: cut off varies year to year( depends on ambiguity/ errors, difficulty level etc). Please avoid considering previous year cut off. For May2017 cut off is 174/240, but this year it is 97/224.

Hope you understand this point

They are saying as all the Pending  interviews of cs will over they will declare within 20-25 days...

I think, this is true. They won't stop till Mech, ECE interviews are over, They declare results for CS separately, for this reason they have conducted interviews prior to them.

I called them, now they  have mentioned that the result will come by the end of this month or firstweek of September

When we call , the icrb people are telling different information to us. One icrb official says it will come before August end, one is saying August or September first week. They themselves are not sure when it will come.

I think all interviews(CS+EC+ME) are completed now, Is there a way where can we all join together and ask them for the exact time frame of results?
