@Arjun Sir, I got CDS M. Tech(not Research) and there is a great chance of getting CSA as well in the further rounds. But I'm willing to join CDS as the course work at CDS amazes me : http://cds.iisc.ac.in/academics/mtechcds/

Is it a wrong decision? As I got comments from my friends that you are taking a wrong decision(I've viewed the labs, faculty, their qualifications, areas of Research, I literally stalked the website of CDS :p)

@Usumaki The only thing you need to consider is the course structure. If you like it then fine. CDS was not there during my time - I dont know how different its from SERC. Even in IISc, during my time from CSA, nearly 80% went for jobs and more than 75% went for normal IIT level job - meaning coding and implementation. If you are going to be among them, then probably CSA is better as you will have more options there. If you want to become an expert in field and do research CDS is no inferior or might even be better based on your interests. In terms of faculty profile IISc is IISc :)

I'm in no way interested in taking up a job sir. I want to get into top universities in US for my Research.(And coming to taking up the job, there was a pre-interview session at IISc before the Interview, where I had interacted with the seniors there and they said all were placed and they gave the interview along with the students from CSA ).

Yes they do. Do you expect any one to be not placed in IISc? That can happen if one tries so hard for it. But some companies do prefer departments. Actually Intel during my time took only from CDS and not from CSA except 1. Likewise some companies did the reverse. This happened for 3-5 companies I believe and except Intel the rest 3-4 favored CSA while for all others it was the same. But if you have research interest these things does not matter. You can join CDS.

:o I didn't know there was a bias among the departments. Thank you for the suggestion sir :)

@Mr Arjun

What kind of an institution is the one named University of Paris Saclay or something like that for research?

I am not asking for myself, its for someone of Science background. You're in France so thought you might have an idea.

BTW, thanks for the suggestion of IISc, but I can't for some reasons. :) Only option IIT D.

@Uzumaki I guess you took my words wrong. I have corrected :)
@Newplayerr I'm not sure. I was In INRIA and now I'm in OSU, US not France :) And IITD is fine but not BBNL..

No sir, I got what you have said correctly :)

Suppose Nvidia comes for placements then it might prefer CDS over CSA as the course work at CDS is similar to what they work in GPUs( CSA also includes but not that intense). And If Google/Microsoft etc come they might have an interest in CSA more(depending on their requirements).

Isn't it what you are saying sir?

Yes :) But for 90% companies its same - Aptitude + Tech rounds for placement :)

(Y) Aptitude and Math scare me :o. I need to hone up my Math before I go there.

@Mr Arjun

Haha. Yes I won't be going for BBNL. I suspect if it would be my kind of job.

There's this question that I have wanted to ask a research scholar for a long time :

How do people come to know what topic they are going to research?

I mean, example : looking at your armi.in profile, I don't even know if there is something in existence with a name containing the term "aspect oriented".

Does everyone who does research has to create something new in their field?

I wouldn't have a problem if your answer goes something like : "you'll know when you join a Masters program", or "you just start reading research journals till your search ends".

I could have done fine without asking this question, but we are here so fired it.
