Consider an error-free 64-kbps satellite channel used to send 512-byte data frames in one direction, with very short acknowledgements coming back the other way. What is the maximum throughput for window sizes of 1, 7, 15, and 127? The earth-satellite propagation time is 270 msec

Consider the operation of Selective Repeat over a 1-Mbps perfect (i.e., error-free) line. The maximum frame size is 1000 bits. New packets are generated 1 second apart. The timeout interval is 10 msec. If the special acknowledgement timer were eliminated, unnecessary timeouts would occur. How many times would the average message be transmitted?

An upper-layer packet is split into 10 frames, each of which has an 80% chance of arriving undamaged. If no error control is done by the data link protocol, how many times must the message be sent on average to get the entire thing through? how is it different if we use error control ?

In selective repeat SR protocol, MAX_SEQ = 2^n - 1. While this condition is obviously desirable to make efficient use of header bits, we have not demonstrated that it is essential. Does the protocol work correctly for MAX_SEQ = 4, for example?

tanenbaum OS
Compute the run time of a program which has 55.500.000 memory accesses, a TLB hit rate of 75%, and a page fault rate of 0,005. We consider the TLB access time negligible. The page fault rate is the percent of memory accesses that require a disk access. ... TLB miss, the OS accesses the memory to get the page table entry and updates the TLB. Which is the run time of the application??

Tanenbaum NAK and Retransmission
Compute the fraction of the bandwidth that is wasted on overheads(headers and retransmission ) for protocol 6 on a heavily loaded 50 kbps satellite channel with data frames consisting of 40 headers and 3960 data bits.Assume that the signal propagation time ... for data frames is 1%, and the error rate for NAK frames is negligible. The sequence numbers are 8 bits.

TANENBAUM - Memory Management - Paging
A computer has 32-bit virtual addresses and 4-KB pages. The program and data together fit in the lowest page (0-4095). The stack fits in the highest page. How many page table entries are needed for two-level paging, with 10 bits in each part?
