I hope $\sum \alpha^2$ means the sum of roots.

Sum of roots $= \alpha^2 + \beta^2 = (\alpha + \beta)^2 - 2\alpha\beta=$ (sum of roots)$^2$ - $2$(prod of roots) = $p^2 - 2q$.

Hence, the answer is C.
