Its just a different representation for representing the cardinality. Here 0..* represents 0 or more. 1..1 represents 1. So it is n:1

1..1 means 1 student

0..* means 0 or more

it want to say 1 student may have 0 or more advisors.

i think.. this is min. and max. cardinality....

0...* means all instructor need not have a student(0) and one instructor is allowed to be advisor of multiple students (*)...

1..1 means every student must have an advisor(1) and exactly one advisor.(1). ???
