Consider a point to point link 50Kms in length. At what bandwidth would propagation delay(at the speed of light) equal to transmit delay for 100 byte packets ? What about 512 byte packets?

Best answer

As Transmission time(TT)=Data size/Bandwidth and Propagation time(PT)=Distance/velocity.

given that TT=PT we can conclude that  Bandwidth(BW)=(Data size*Velocity)/distance

For 100 bytes packet BW=(100bytes*3*108ms-1)/50*103m=4.8Mbps

and 512 bytes packet BW=(512bytes*3*108ms-1)/50*103m=24.576Mbps
