The second moment of a Poisson-distributed random variable is 2. The mean of the variable is .... My question on solving we get 2 values of lamda(ie mean) .One is -2 and the other is 1 .So which one to choose?

Combination , how to solve ?
How many ways are there to select four pieces of fruit from a bowl containing apples, oranges, and pears if the order in which the pieces are selected does not matter, only the type of fruit and not the individual piece matters, and there are at least four pieces of each type of fruit in the bowl?

For the set N of natural numbers and a binary operation f : N x N → N, an element z ∊ N is called an identity for f, if f (a, z) = a = f(z, a), for all a ∊ N. Which of the following binary operations have an identity? f (x, y) = x + y - 3 f (x, y) = ... xy I have query to option II f(2,7) here a=2 , z=7 so f(2,7)=max(2,7)=2 which is not right ......is my approach right ?
