In Set 2, I think there is a Mistake in Pipelining Question.

Also There is a Mistake in Graph Question , where MST (minimum spanning tree) is given.

In pipeline question , it is asking upto two decimal place. my answer is 1.87 but  GO key is 1.875 it is shown incorrect in SET 2.please correct it..

In Set 2 . Pipeline Question Answer is 1.875. In Question asked to Round up to 2 decimal places , so it should also accept 1.88.

Currently only accepting 1.875

In set 2, the pure ALOHA question (Question ID: 8232513154), incorrect answer is provided in the GO Key. The correct answer should be 135.3, whereas 1353 is provided in the key.

Needless to say, this isn't the end game, you still have a long way to go(coming from a fellow aspirant)... There are various opportunities that can exploited from your GATE Score how low it maybe you can still use it.

From the back of my head various opportunities abroad for doing your masters( anecdotally, I know some people coming from college of no-reputation getting good colleges(here Germany, and Canada) and get well settled), opportunities in home in some colleges(see Scores to Colleges for accurate info), other entrance exams(JEST(today is the last date not sure it's still open though), TIFR(finished)), or whatever the light through your window looks like.

Some people did seem to get disheartened over the fact of getting a low score but fear not there many unexplored opportunities what I had told them is just the tip of the iceberg.

@Kanwae Kan , what rank are you getting in ME ? There's a Huge difference in my rank in ME and GO.Offcourse more students in ME, but ME has a glitch where correct answers aren't given marks, GO is quite accurate in that.

I'm more concerned about the score now, in both platforms I'm getting above 700 which is fine for me, for marks I'm getting 59.67 which is highly debatable... I don't understand why I got an increase in marks...

I don't think so, the question was legit apart from the minor discrepancy. It should surely bridge the gap between rankers but I don't think it would happen.
I didn't attend the question but I've not seen people arguing the intended answer.

The error in the hamming code question seems trivial now, but in a pressure situation it certainly got me very confused since i could not make much sense about why the d4 has been mentioned twice(whether it's some modification to hamming code which they are asking for or a printing mistake). I feel such questions should be considered for marks for all.

This we know now but in an exam situation won't you prefer to solve questions with no mistakes/ambiguity or try to correct such mistakes in the questions with many other doable question still pending, this is what I'm saying.

In set 1 hamming distance question will be obvious marks to all , because it was quite confusing , I know the process of solving it but seeing -.67 hence not attended , I feel in later stages it will be bonus

I am getting 68.33 marks in set 1 . My current normalised rank is 54 . But estimated is showing from 207-270 . IS there are any chances of getting under 150 ??

And this normalisation is making rank bizzare a person getting same marks in set 1 and set 2 one is getting expected rank as 600 and other guy getting 20 what the hell ,why gate people don't balance the question paper . Toughness of paper depend on  individuals perception.

It may be realistic for the Top 10 People in Set 2.

But Max to Max I'm expecting 3 to 4 Marks increment in the 60 to 65 Range.

@Amcodes   Everything is taken into account for the Normalization. Don't worry whatever marks one gets it will be normalized accordingly and fairly. A good rule of thumb is this:

Let X = Rank in Your Set.

Let Y = Normalized Rank.

Approximately in an ideal world : Y = 2X.

You can try out different marks range in Visualizer , you can see this effect. it will be close to 2X always.

No malloc doesn't always do a system call, if it did it would very inefficient.

It gets a chunk of memory and then later calls are just distributing this memory.

Yes @Kanwae Kan my marks also changed , GO answer key is much better, and ME has worse Glitches and they don't even want to correct it, answers which were right are still showing wrong.I wonder if they are even trying to correct it!

Ok, i think just one day after the Final Answer Keys are Out, everything should be Clear. Right now because of such 2-3 ambiguous questions in both Sets Ranks can change massively.

This DBMS question was tricky once redo and undo is done algorithm assume that no need to recovered bit if concurrent transaction affect while computing again from failure we can't recovered the data may violate data integrity may be I am wrong

I don't think Students have enough sources to prove that question's answer as Semantic error, yes there are Arguments, but not some valid source to prove. So i don't think anyone would invest 500 for that

Most probably , it would be Syntax only, but for CFG being an intermediate representation , i am doubtful,also CFG is mostly used for optimizing the code further (identify loops), so this further raises confusion.

Normalisation is already stable I guess. Because it needs the data of top 100 students only. But rank estimate needs more data. Once we have say around 15000 users we can see the rank prediction to be better accurate. Also, we can know how the score cutoff from last year can change.

Current normalized rank in GO should be pretty accurate compared to those who submitted. How many of the toppers actually submitted - usually within a week 90% of them do. Once 490 of the top 500 rankers in CSE used the app - so no prediction was needed for top 500 ranks at least.

It would not be right decision with the students,I personally know how to solve it but skip because of contradiction in the question . It should be marks to all(MTA). because of negative marks I skipped ,most of the people would be like me who intentional skip the question even though they  know how to solve it. Pragy's app code is open source- we do have additions to take care of MSQ etc but 90% of the code you can find in Github. Q1-25 are simply 1 mark every year. This number 1-25 - can be seen from the question image in ones response. Honestly I have no idea why no other institutes use this ordering for their keys. When official answer key comes it'll be in same question order - what we follow in GO. The only thing to be predicted (others are just calculated using official formula) are

1. cutoff -- should be 25 this year as average mark is clearly low
2. Average mark of top 100 -- when most of the top 100 - usually 90-100% of them submit their responses in GO, this is precise
3. Estimated rank- this is a prediction and take it with a pinch of salt. Being a range, it will mostly be within that anyway.

IITB really testing everyone's patience on every phase of GATE, first so many MSQs, NAT, a good level difference in difficulty lvl of 2 sets, now declaring Answer Key a bit late etc

Meanwhile rank prediction was updated on GO. 60+ is good enough for both sets to get a good college. If one is getting 80 marks - he/she is getting higher normalized mark in both sets. This shows that both papers were comparatively tougher and topper performed better than the average population. Of course set 2 being more difficult than set 1 is clear from the scored marks though set 2 also has 80+.

I think,Right now, the rank given is also considering some previous year data i guess to predict marks of students who have not yet used GO predictor, so i suggest don't take the Rank too seriously as of now, else you can take 1050 as upper bound only.

As I had told earlier for the predictor to be precise we need most of the top 100 rankers to use it. I believe most of them would already have. 

Yes, normalisation can increase the marks for both set 1 and set 2  for some ranges -- try doing math using the normalisation formula - can help in IITs/IISc 😃

No. Because normalization depends on cutoff and top 0.1% marks. Cut off is surely 25 this year as both papers were tough to score. So, mean mark is not at all required for normalization or score calculation -- 25 is the key.

I presume so, given how 'made easy' made it difficult for everyone to verify their marks, most people by now would've verified their marks using gateoverflow's rank predictor.
Those belonging in the top-tier would've already entered their marks by now, and their ranks don't vary much for them unlike those belonging in the lower spectrum.

Yeah it seems the answer keys are updated many times. Even my marks dropped a few times, but I think it's consistent enough to predict your actual rank range. It's just my opinion. people who actually know this could say otherwise too...

My actual marks are 53, and normalized marks are being shown as 57.16. My rank estimate is 447-887.

As many people have been sharing their past experiences, I know everything on the app is almost accurate. But can I seriously expect my rank to be in this range given I only scored 53 actually. I want to heave some sigh of relief, but this keeps bothering.

@debmalyaSEN Sort by question IDs. First five in aptitude are 1 mark, and first 25 in technical are 1 mark. Rest all are 2 mark questions.

For GA 9, there is no need to argue further. It is all about how to interpret Either or. This should be ambiguous especially with option D. Well we are not changing the key but both C and D should be given marks in my opinion. I suggest to post this in stack exchange so that you can get a citation by the time key is released and this can be used for debate.

@satish11 unfortunately the TCP user timeout is an option, not mandatory. To make option A) in that TCP MSQ false, we need something that will force the client to not wait indefinitely. I had suggested earlier that this can even happen due to OS pre-emption of socket process, or literally anything else on the machine because the client process does not live in isolation. IMHO they should have specified that interruption of process is disabled and no other mechanism exists which can stop a socket process from executing forever.

Theoretically, yes, the client could wait indefinitely. But I don't think it happens in practice. However we both know what GATE paper setters will select - the options that make our answer wrong :p

@pritishic @Arjun, Please take a look at this cloud fare blog which explains in detail. TCP Time out  timer overrides Keepalive timer and idle connections are closed. And also note that Time out timer has default value. So obviously idle connections will be closed once timeout timer expires.

For it to override, it has to actually be set. It's an option/switch, not something that is set by default. If you want to argue or challenge option A), you will have to show that there is something by default that prevents the client process from waiting indefinitely. One such thing is process preemption, and yet another is hardware interrupts, since you can argue that the client process does not live in isolation - the OS decides how long it lives ultimately. It has not been mentioned that interrupts are disabled, so I believe this option can be challenged on this basis.

This is nothing unusual :) in 2011 - 14 marks were Marks to All. Just 2-3 debates out of 130 questions is very much reasonable especially considering both papers were tough. Instead of wasting time arguing prepare for interviews or prepare for MTech life. Seniors from IITB have already added good assignments (Under MTech course) in go classroom - https://classroom.gateoverflow.in - anyone can freely create an account and use it. Considering the GATE 2021 questions one can expect how IIT life will be. Even for toppers that won't be an easy walk.

Just check the GATE normalization or score calculation formula- only top 0.1% -- approximately top 100 marks are used. I believe most of them have used GO predictor -- thats why accuracy won't be an issue for score or normalized marks or top ranks. Thats why estimate range goes higher as marks are lower. Those with marks lower than 40 won't be using multiple predictors as once they get a mark - they leave GATE. So, I suppose maximum 10k people we might be getting -- but this should include most toppers like what happened last year. Also, those below 40 marks -- they might be thinking ME key is better than GO key - so happy to take all the trouble to check their marks there :)

Also when the articulation answer key was changed on GO -- many in set 1 lost 2+ marks. But now see how normalization has brought their normalized mark to almost the previous level. Those who got it correct now (only a few of them)- their marks increased by more than 3 I believe. If a change is happening for the majority -- it won't affect normalized marks much but if the change is for minority, it'll have a significant change in their marks. Again, the minority and majority are all with respect to top 100 ranks in GATE.

What I meant is at least now you should be able to know what is the correct answer and not just rely on some keys - whether it is ME or GO unless if the question is ambiguous or there is a typo as in the Hamming code one. 46.99 is invalid in actual GATE - not ME GATE :) Every mark will be ending in either 0.33, 0.67 or an exact integer.

If all the candidates have used the predictor and the key is correct then

Normalized rank = Your real GATE rank = Rank estimate

But the predictors give and extra upper bound for your rank given as rank estimate to cover cases if some of the students have not used the predictor or if you lose a small amount of marks.

Yes. Rank estimate is to factor in missing submissions. The range goes larger as the marks go lower. I don't think those below 20 will use any predictor and they are the majority in GATE :)

You can analyze the response sheet and find the scheme in the HTML. Can also guess by looking at the question IDs given on the right hand side. For e.g. in CS section initial 25 questions by question ID are 1 markers and rest are 2 markers.

The ME rank predictor i feel cannot be trusted(considering the kind of solutions they have uploaded for set 1). They might be considering multiple upload of the same response sheet for all we know, since it's highly unlikely that 21k cse aspirants have uppoaded there whereas only ~6.5k in GO.

I would suggest you to study for IIIT Hyderabad entrance . This way you will be ready for any interviews and also IIIT H is a very good college . I dont think you should focus on coding.

Free marks does increase some peoples' marks. I for one got wrong with TCP, GA and some questions which cost me a whopping 6 mark along with negative marks. Dare I say there're similar questions like that, which costed some people. I'm just 55 now, it could boost or at least level the playing field for some who didn't get that right in GO's predictor.

As for normalization, it's too hard at least for me to guess what would happen.

The general aptitude Q9 follows the interpretation that either-or === inclusive or, not exclusive or. There are exercise problems in Rosen where in Rosen solution manual they have taken inclusive or interpretation, so inclusive or is expected. If you want to say exclusive or, you have to specify it as "Either I or II but not both".

Nah, it is different. GATE is treating either or as exclusive-or. In that electronics and communication question either or when interpreted as exclusive or is correct indeed. But in CS set 1 it is not right to interpret it as exclusive-or. It might be debatable that either-or is exclusive or inclusive or, but there is no doubt that neither nor is A nor B. i.e., None of them should be true. And clearly, there doesn't exist even a single case where none of them are true. So although we may argue that whether either or was correct or not, but that doesn't makes neither nor correct. It just can't be right. As @pritishc said even in rosen they have mentioned very often explicitly either or but not both to indicate exclusive or.

As someone pointed out they have almost same kind of question in Electronics and Communication Engineering. 

Here they have used exact same wordings and everything is same. And so if you go on to interpret it as a ex-or than either or is correct. Also as a matter of fact you dont have neither nor in option otherwise All those in favour of neither nor would have marked that option only by the reasoning that they are giving. But clearly thats not how gate is interpreting it. And since it is now a question of treating either or as exclusive/inclusive or, so if you treat either or exclusive or then I accept that option C is wrong. But still that wouldn't make option D right. Because you will be saying that, None of them are true, which is not the case clearly. Again, if you want to argue that conclusion is valid only if it follows in all cases and all those things than enlighten me how in the world this question another GATE question is correct.

For now, there is no point in arguing in ourselves, I believe everyone who had marked either or should be challenging this question, Don't expect it from others. We can use this question as a reference and rosen too, because there they have been very careful. Even with either or, they explicitly mention "but not both", So if either or unambiguously states that it is exor, why would such an author mention "but not both" several times.

So lets hope for the best and challenge this question. I mean even those who have marked neither nor should go on to challenge this question 😅. Just kidding.

My reasoning :

The error generated in complier is "Unknown type name Integer".

I think this is being confused with type checking of semantic phase where types are checked to meet the requirement of an expression. But such type checking occurs only when that type is a known type in C.

Here, the syntax analyzer classifies "Integer x" as "expression expression" which becomes invalid and expected value would have been "keyword expression" giving the unknown type error.

In other words, the given statement violates one of the grammar rules of c hence its supposed to be syntax error.

Also in turbo c++, error generated is unknow identifier.

So, yes indeed it may seem that challenging too many questions might work in our favour as it will increase our marks a bit significantly. But that might not be actually reflected very well in the overall ranking according to me. Because free marks are never good, as it may go on to increase our marks but due to that average of set 1 people will also increase and that may end up affecting our rank quite significantly because of the normalization. Due to normalization, we may start getting affected due to the impact on our ranks.

So think wisely, avoid challenging too many questions. As it may seem good, but actually might not be.

The problem is people like me, who at first go saw that hamming ques and noticed that d4 is taken twice then in that exam pressure, i thought that what if i attempt it and waste my time and then if gate authorities declare it MTA, that's why i didn't answer that question during the exam.

if a question has some misprint its clearly the gate authorities mistake and that's why it should be challenged.

Yes, a teacher (unnamed intentionally) confirmed it. I think it was confirmed in a live session yesterday. It seems they have challenged more questions than the ones listed in Gate Overflow, he didn't specify the exact count.
