Hi, everyone I am AIR 89 2021 general category at IIT Delhi. I came back here to give you a slight outlook of the curriculum of IITD.

First things First.

If you are thinking that getting into IITs is easier than surviving into them. Then you are absolutely wrong. Gate preparation is nothing in comparison to the curriculum that IITs offer specifically, what IITD holds. Because that is what going to shape you towards a good future, so get ready for it. Be hardworking.

Please see the course structure first then select any IIT for the Masters/ etc at your COAP. Don’t be greedy with the choice that Oh, these are some top institutes then they are best. It is not the case always. Some institutes focus more on the research side( Theoretical aspect ) than application( say coding ). In the first semester maybe you don’t have a choice to choose your dream courses.

Lots of students are completely empty with the course they want to go with, they are just looking at which institute gives the best placements, some times its not about placements. You might not able to get good CGPA to sit for placements in your dream company if you are not able to score well. And to score well you should study what you like or you are good at.  Say you want to learn about AI or machine learning but there is no course here for you at a semester. Or you can’t choose anything in the First semester. This is sad, at this stage, you are mature enough to choose your stuff and should be moving forward in that direction. But the institute doesn’t offer this to you.

IITD don’t give choice in the First sem to choose your subjects in MTECH CSE. So, 25% of the course timeline is wasted. Wonderful. This is happening at the institute of eminence. Study boring subjects that don’t suit you. So look at the course outline first before getting into the institute. Try IIT M, IIT Roorkee they are very good choices and also ranked 1 and some respectively among all engineering colleges of India.

One thing I like about IITs is that they entertain your questions/ doubts very well and encourage you to ask also. By default language here will ENGLISH. So get comfortable with it as early as possible, otherwise, you will be silent spectator with the course. But like here also some Prof are good some are bad with their teaching skills. Not questioning what they know. No, doubt they have the best research papers published among the Indian subcontinent. But they lack with their teaching skills. And like in every Indian college courses rotates to different professors every sem which makes none expert on a subject but some are fixed on subjects but the rest are not. The best you can get in IIT is when you are physically present in the IITs and and interacting with like-minded students and profs around you from the globe. And sharing beautiful thoughts. I hope next sem will be offline and I will enjoy the institute better. !!

Hope you are preparing well don’t forget to solve the previous year papers twice or thrice before Gate. All the best.

 Thanks for the apriori info.

Also brother just wanted to confirm if there is criteria of 60% or above in bachelors degree for IIT-D admission even if we get good rank or not?

@rish1602

All NITs require 60% or 6.5 CGPA(which is aggregate of all semesters)..

Most IITs also requires the same Bt IITs like IIT B(60%in the final year or 60% aggregate of all semesters) ...

  • IITM requires just qualifying degree,

  • IITK requires 5.5 CGPA,

  • IISc requires just second class degree ...

Please please please -- do not compare IITR with IITD. Let IITR first learn that 1/3 not equal to 0.33. IITM is comparable if not better than IITD.

Even at IISc not many faculties are exceptional teachers like MJT. But all except 1-2 are highly knowledgeable and that's the important thing. At Masters level you must be having your doubts and faculties must be able to clear them. Most of them won't do spoonfeeding as those going for coaching demand.

I can see what you want to say, but you are doing it in a wrong manner that has a lot of bad consequences.

1. Questioning a reputable institute based on your personal grudges.

2. It seems you are crying and want compensation.

3. Horrible, Pathetic and borderline offensive drafting.

Please improve your drafting and be reasonable, as many student reading this might take it in wrong way.

My suggestions either delete it, or rephrase it, it is not acceptable in it's current format.

It is incomplete and lacks details. It doesn't cover the entire context or future aspects of the institute's vision. It's a subjective opinion.

State clear facts and refrain from pushing your opinion into it.

If your sole intention is to guide your juniors then divide the article in sections,

1. Pros

2. Cons

3. Personal Experience

4. Suggestion

state facts and clearly say what you want to say .

@palashbehra5 The context was when IITR organized GATE last time. Even though exam papers are set by all IITs together, management of the exam is by the organizing institute only. And IITR did a stupid mistake in overlooking the exam interface where for each wrong answer 0.33 * question mark was deducted. Thus 3 wrong 1 mark answers caused a loss of 0.99 marks as opposed to 1 mark.  This came to light in Pragy's app and when it was complained to IITR -- as a typical government institute they silently ignored it claiming "everything is alright". From next year onwards other IITs fixed this issue.

But more importantly IITR is not equal to other old IITs and you can ask this to any BTech CSE students studying there. Most of the MTech people only look at "companies" visiting in evaluating a college -- they completely ignore the fact that 2 years of quality education can change an average person to a smart one/ and this cannot happen at an average institute. Also, 2 persons joining same institute need not get same placement right? - similarly 2 persons getting same placement need not have the same career growth -- the one who received better education is expected to have a better career growth. So, preferring IITD to IITR is a non-brainer.

Can you please tell me about the internship scenario. Are mtech students allowed to do internships at MNCs  or foreign institutes ?

IITD has no institutional support regarding internships. At our IITD personal mailbox, we have so many droppings of emails regarding internships and all from companies across the globe. You are independent to engage with them say after acceptance or prior to that, you can concern your HOD regarding the allowance for internship.

I believe you are too much in respect of institute that you can't accept the truth about it. It like no one can question the authority? Everyone can, and even criticize also. This is not Military. An everything ok thinking never leads to development. Try to think about it. Even if we are so great but we still lack behind 184 universities across the world. Try to get into the domain of the institute. Before selecting any institute try asking what is it, why should I go there, is it enough for me, can something be better or could it be?

Just for fun try getting the names of people you know who are IITians and are at good position or say renowned. Now compare them with non IITians over the same platform. You will know the difference.  At IIT they love corporate culture, you are assigned a task with a deadline and you have to do exactly what you are asked for, nothing more nothing less. Be strict with the guidelines. That is why companies love IITians because they are trained that way. Smartness is a much broader term. And being Innovative is beyond the term smart.

Maybe India is lacking in research because it is slow to accept change and there are some people who support this. Strange. Well, truth is truth no one can deny it. It's up to you how you taste it. Just getting into a premium institute doesn't guarantee lifelong success. For that, there is a different criterion. Try to find your interest in the subjects, what you like, do you think Ok I can do something good in it,  can I study it further and pursue them. This is a master level course, not an undergrad. Sounds emotional but works well. Money is everywhere do what you like. Be an expert.

But @yarunsharma

Even after getting very good rank (like yours) do they still consider college percentage for admission at IIT-delhi  ?

I completely agree with this post. I also chose a subject which I hated just to get into IIT Delhi when I could have gotten subject of my choice in other good colleges. Now , everyday is hell for me. When you do hard assignments in subjects you love , it becomes enjoyable but when you do them in subjects you hate , it becomes a nightmare. There is no flexibility in IIT delhi. Even in optional subjects they design the slots , curriculum in such a way that you are forced to take nonsense subjects which no one wants to study . And the professors are pure evil. I had to undergo surgery because of which I missed some exams and I requested them to retake exam and gave all proofs. Still they ignored my request and gave me 0. For some people IITs are dream but for some people like me they become torture.
