GATE CSE 2007 | Question: 26
Consider the set $S =\{ a , b , c , d\}.$ Consider the following $4$ partitions $π_1,π_2,π_3,π_4$ on $S : π_1 =\{\overline{abcd}\},\quad π_2 =\{\overline{ab}, \overline{cd}\},$ ... $π_i \prec π_j$ if and only if $π_i$ refines $π_j$. The poset diagram for $(S',\prec)$ is:

We consider the addition of two ${2}'s$ compliment numbers $b_{n-1}b_{n-2}\ldots b_{0}$ and $a_{n-1}a_{n-2}\ldots a_{0}$. A binary adder for adding two unsigned binary numbers is used to add two binary numbers. The sum is denoted by $c_{n-1}c_{n-2}\ldots c_{0}$.The carry out ... $c_{out}\oplus c_{n-1}$ $a_{n-1}\oplus b_{n-1}\oplus c_{n-1}$

Error Detection Using CRC
For detecting a single bit error using CRC, it is needed that $x^{i}$ should not be divisible by g(x). So, we make g(x) of at least 2 terms, which renders a single term of e(x) indivisible. But then what is the logic behind keeping MSB as 1. ... any single bit indivisible? For example, $x^{3}+x^{2}$ is guarantees to detect a single bit error at any position. Is it not?

Operating System :Deadlock :
We know that whenever a process needs i/o time it goes to block/wait state. At that time cpu is idle and it can run other processes. What happens during the deadlock ? In which state do the processes go, so that the cpu freezes ? If all the ... go into block state then why does the cpu freezes ? The cpu should stay idle, but it should not freeze . Can anyone clarify ?

Full Adder
The Cout function of a 3-bit adder is as follows: AB + Cin (A ⊕ B) ----- i It, being a majority function, can also be written as: AB+BCin+CinA which is equivalent to AB + Cin (A+B) ------- ii So, if we consider eqn i and ii, doesn't it show that (A ⊕ B) = (A+B). What am I missing here?
